Pregnancy Massage is a catch-all term for any hands-on massage during or after pregnancy (prenatal or postnatal massage).
A Pregnancy Massage typically lasts 60 minutes and I choose to use a massage couch specifically designed with the comfort of mum-to-be in mind, along with the use of cushions to ensure that the entire treatment can be as relaxing as possible.
Although, only a small number of studies have been done in regards to the benefits of Pregnancy Massage, some studies have suggested that massage can:
-Lower anxiety
-Decrease pains associated with pregnancy
-Improve sleep
-Decrease levels of the stress hormone, norepinephrine
-Increase levels of the feel-good hormones, serotonin and dopamine
-Decrease levels of cortisol, an indicator of stress
-Improve overall mood
